What is the Accenture Innovation Awards Program?
The Accenture Innovation Awards is a year-round program with the goal to create an extensive ecosystem to connect all innovators and to drive innovation together. This program consists of a series of events throughout the year, ranging from Innovation Deepdives, to Innovation Exchanges and Scale Up Academy Days, ultimately culminating in the Accenture Innovation Summit on October 27, 2017.
The Innovation Summit will be the stage where this year’s most game-changing innovative concepts pitch to win the coveted Blue or Green Tulip.
Eleven themes represent the most important trends and challenges of our time. The innovations registered within these themes will aim to improve the way the world works and lives, by taking the theme’s challenges.

Bas Zepers, Founder of Plasmacure – Former winner of the Innovation Awards
What can I win?
Winning the Innovation Awards means: access to the professional services of Accenture and its partners. You will receive advice and guidance in areas such as:
- Media Exposure
Last year’s Blue Tulip winner in the Health & Wellbeing innovation theme, Plasmacure, is a great example to show the benefits of winning an Innovation Award. Together with Accenture, Plasmacure created a solid business plan. Accenture provided guidance in the analyzing phase to formulate guidelines. Furthermore, the team together developed a supporting tool for Plasmacure and supported them along the way of the project.
The Blue Tulip
As a perfectly blue tulip is the dream of every flower farmer, winning an Innovation Awards is the dream of Innovative entrepreneurs in the Netherlands.
Did you know that to date, the dream of every flower farmer is to cultivate the perfect blue tulip? Countless purple/blue-ish tulips were created in the past century, but an actual blue one seems impossible. For Accenture, the blue tulip is the symbol of Dutch innovation and therefore, the blue tulip is the symbol of the Innovation Awards.
The Green Tulip
The most sustainable innovation will be rewarded with the green tulip. A sustainable innovation is one that pertains to a system that maintains its own viability by using techniques that allow for continual reuse. Every innovation can participate to win the green tulip, by registering in the theme ‘circular economy’.
In 2015, the award went to GoodHout. Thanks to Coconut Husk Board, an alternative to wood is produced worldwide. It is made from coconut waste, which also reduces Co2 emissions. Besides this, this innovation supports the local population in developing countries where coconuts grow.
One of the prizes you can win when participating in the Innovation Awards, is the public prize: the prize for the innovation that received the most votes from the Dutch audience. Everyone can vote, so it is up to you to activate your network. In 2015, Little Hero won the public prize with 18,864 votes.
